TAKE US TO CANAAN: A Poem.

TAKE US TO CANAAN

This is not our land
Nor is it the land of our fathers
It is but our land of sojourn
Take us to Canaan

We want to leave Egypt
For pharaoh’s afflictions are enormous
His heart too hardened
His guards heartless
And his motives evil
Take us to our land

Moses! Moses! Moses!
It is not time to talk
It is not time to stammer
We need your actions
Drop your rod
Let it swallow his snakes
Then we will leave for Canaan

On the way
Do not smash the rock
Speak and water shall come forth
You need not die on Sinai
Be with us in Canaan

We are ready to go
Take us to the Promised Land
Take us to our fathers
Take us safely
Take us to Canaan.
